Uncle Mike's 10 Undeniable Truths
  1. It’s an engine not a motor. Also it’s a gallery plug. The keyway is the slot the key goes into. Might as well get it right.
  2. Torque moves the car.  Horsepower numbers are for bragging in the bar. Corollary to #2, a great many people claiming to have high horsepower engines don’t.
  3. Without a properly built short block you don’t have an engine.  You have a disaster waiting to happen.
  4. You cannot have too strong a connecting rod.
  5. Compression and camshaft specs of your engine are like fertilizer on your rose bushes – just enough and they thrive.  Too much and they can die.
  6. There is no such thing as a harmless engine knock.
  7. There is no question that Murphy started out as an auto engineer. And in auto related matters he was an optimist.
  8. You can do more expensive damage with a press than any other tool in your shop.
  9. The least expensive thing you can do to your vehicle is put gas in its tank.
